Built for living , loved for a lifetime.
Our clients in Bromsgrove required a substantial rear extension that mirrored the grand proportions of their period home.
The primary challenge was to replace an underutilized patio area with a high-performance Sapele hardwood orangery that provided a thermal bridge between the traditional masonry and the landscaped gardens.
This orangery was designed to feel like a permanent architectural feature of the home, using solid Sapele hardwood for strength, durability, and long-term stability. The structure seamlessly connects the traditional masonry of the house with the surrounding garden while delivering high-performance insulation and year-round comfort.

Matching the heavy masonry and intricate rooflines of the existing Victorian architecture.

Replacing thin glazing and polycarbonate with high-performance solar-control glass.

Creating a seamless flow between the internal living space and the manicured gardens.
The starting point was a traditional rendered residence in Buckinghamshire that lacked the footprint required for modern family life.
The brief was ambitious: a comprehensive side extension designed to integrate upstairs living quarters, a luxury hardwood orangery, and a functional utility link providing internal access to an additional garage.
The goal was to create a cohesive architectural flow that respected the original rendered finish while adding significant volume and value.
As seen in the initial phase , the transformation required meticulous groundworks and structural engineering to bridge the existing house with the new multi-use zones.
The Utility Link: We engineered a seamless corridor that connects the main living hub to the utility and garage, ensuring that modern convenience didn’t compromise the home’s period silhouette.
Vertical Integration: The build was designed to support a second-story extension, requiring heavy-duty steelwork and precision-laid masonry to ensure the “upstairs living” space integrated flawlessly with the roofline of the original rendered house.
While the groundwork represents the “bones” of the project, the precision craftsmanship is defined by the high-performance timber and glazing.
The Sapele Orangery: The centerpiece is a bespoke Sapele hardwood orangery, chosen for its natural permanence and structural stability over large spans.
Tricoya® Integration: To ensure the longevity of the new utility link and garage connections, we utilized Tricoya® fascia boards, providing a 50-year rot-resistance guarantee in high-exposure areas. Performance Glazing: The new orangery features argon-filled, solar-control glazing, ensuring the vast new footprint remains thermally efficient across all seasons.
The final phase focuses on architectural harmony. By carefully selecting a brickwork palette for the lower elevations and coordinating the new render with the original house, we ensured the extension felt like a natural evolution.
Our Visual Interpretation phase was critical here; we used 3D renderings to show the client how the garage, utility, and orangery would unify before construction began, “cementing” the design vision and providing total confidence in the multi-phase masterplan.
The existing patio area was reimagined into a substantial orangery extension, designed to mirror the scale and character of the period home while creating a seamless connection to the garden.
Solid Sapele hardwood frames and traditional joinery techniques were used to construct a durable, high-performance structure that combines architectural strength with refined detailing.
The completed orangery was carefully designed to complement the character and scale of the existing period home.
The Pebble Grey finish on the solid Sapele hardwood frames enhances the traditional architecture while maintaining a refined and timeless appearance. Together with the surrounding landscape and terrace, the extension creates a balanced transition between the house and garden, providing a bright and inviting living space.
