Harmonizing Heritage Aesthetics with Contemporary Open-Plan Living The primary objective of this project was to resolve a fragmented rear exterior and unify the home’s footprint. By replacing a thermally inefficient uPVC conservatory with a bespoke Sapele hardwood orangery, we created an environment that feels like a natural, permanent evolution of the original architecture. This phase of the design focused on light-flow and social synergy, transforming what was once a disjointed garden-facing elevation into a sophisticated, high-end kitchen and dining extension. The result is a seamless transition between the original rendered residence and a new, light-drenched social hub that facilitates a modern, indoor-outdoor lifestyle.
Structural Integrity and Hybrid Material Engineering The core of this project was the transition from a temporary uPVC structure to a high-performance, permanent architectural extension. To achieve a seamless open-plan flow, we performed significant structural modifications, including the removal of the rear masonry wall supported by heavy-duty RSJs.

Matching the heavy masonry and intricate rooflines of the existing Victorian architecture.

Replacing thin glazing and polycarbonate with high-performance solar-control glass.

Creating a seamless flow between the internal living space and the manicured gardens.
The Berkshire project is a masterclass in Architectural Synergy, where the heavy masonry of the original Victorian estate meets a high-performance timber extension.
We designed this space to dissolve the boundaries between the traditional home and the garden, creating a seamless transition that facilitates modern, light-filled living.
By aligning the new rooflines with the existing house, we ensured the orangery feels like a natural evolution of the property rather than an addition.
A key challenge of this Structural Transformation was creating the vast, pillar-less internal spans required for a truly modern kitchen-diner.
We utilized heavy-duty steel reinforcement within the Solid Sapele Hardwood header to support the expansive glazing.
This precision engineering allowed us to remove restrictive internal walls, fundamentally changing the home’s footprint and creating a load-bearing structure designed for permanence and thermal stability.
To achieve a 10/10 performance rating, we utilized a ‘specification-first’ approach.
This build features sustainably sourced Solid Sapele for its natural density and Tricoya® for the high-exposure fascia boards, providing a 50-year rot-resistance guarantee.
The glazing is our flagship Solar-Control system, reflecting 78% of heat gain in summer while maintaining a superior U-value in winter, all protected by a 4-stage Teknos microporous finish.
The centerpiece of the Berkshire orangery is the Bespoke Kitchen Design, where the layout is dictated by the flow of natural light from the overhead lantern.
We integrated custom-painted cabinetry and a central social island that aligns perfectly with the architectural sightlines.
This isn’t just a kitchen extension; it is a precision-manufactured culinary hub where the warmth of the Tulipwood frames meets the high-tech performance of a Farrow & Jones glass structure.
The project transformed unused exterior space between the lounge and garage into a cohesive open-plan kitchen and dining area. The old uPVC conservatory was replaced with a hardwood orangery, creating a permanent and refined extension of the home. Structural work included removing the rear masonry wall and lounge roof, supported by high-span RSJs to achieve a pillar-less interior. Sapele hardwood rafters with powder-coated aluminium and lead detailing ensured durability and visual warmth. Existing RAL 7037 aluminium bi-fold doors were integrated, with a bespoke kitchen island positioned beneath the lantern to maximize natural light.
The new handmade kitchen creates the focal point of the home, designed to complement the open-plan orangery layout. A spacious island with plum-toned cabinetry, premium worktop, integrated appliances, layered lighting, and bespoke shaker units provides both functionality and an ideal space for entertaining.
